13th May, 2012 – Sunday  at  4.00 pm  to 7.30 pm  - A Seminar  on Alternative  Medicines was held at  Sheila Raheja Hall, Rotary Service Centre, Juhu.  This Seminar was jointly organized by Rotary Club of Mumbai Khar & Rotary  Club of Bombay West

Dr. R.M. Chokhani on Vipasana Meditation  for Happy  & Healthy Life
Ms. Uttara Dhanjal on Diet for Health
Dr. Astha Singh  & Dr. Subhash  on Naturopathy
Mr. Kishore Kuvavala on Laughter Therapy

Around 200 members from  the community participated in this seminar

On 27th May  :  Attended the  Celebration organized at Hotel Mehula , Next to Haiko,  Hiranandani complex, Powai in  consideration   of our  District being  recognized  as the world’s best  by RI President   at  Bangkok Convention,

From 6th May – 9th May  :  8 members from rotary club of Bombay West  attended the  RI Convention at  Bangkok

First Club Assembly was held  on Sunday at 13th May, 2012  at KC Hall  of Rotary Service Centre where coming years plans  and projects were discussed and interacted by President Elect. Rtn. Ashok Deorah and his Board of Directors with Power Point Presentations.

10 Members  of our Club visited the   check dam site  on 19th May.  Both the check dams have been completed.  The solar light  installation (76 Nos) was also inspected  and found the same   useful to the Adivasi villagers in their hutments.

Report for April 2012

Community Services continue unabated at Bombay West


Ø  On 8th April 2012 : Free  Eye Check up Camp.  Nearly 100 people took the benefit of the camp. Spectacles  were also provided to the needy people free of cost. 

Ø  On 15th April :  As lead host club the  Seminar on “Leadership Within” with other  Clubs  under the leadership of DGE Rtn. Bal Inamdar was held. Workshop was conducted by  Rtn. PP  Madhav Mohan and  Rtn. PP KCR Raja.  About 60 senior members including  incoming  President /Officers  attended.


Ø  Rotary Club of Bombay West in  collaboration - funding  from Rotary Club of  Yverdon-les Bains, Switzerland   alongwith  contribution from  Dist. 3140  Grant Funds has undertaken   to construct two check dams at (1)  Haloli Satavipada, Taluka Palghar and (2)   Savare Taluka Palghar.  We have successfully completed  one check dam and one is under construction.  On 18th April, 2012, Rtn. PP Dr. Ramesh Vaswani of R.C. Yverdon-les-Bains  alongwith  15  Rotarians  visited the site and inaugurated  the check dam which is completed. 

Ø  On 21st April – 58th Charter Nite of our Club was celebrated at Hotel  Palmgrove, Juhu with Ghazal programme as a tribute to Ghazal Maestro  Jagjit Singh, Presentation of Lifetime Achievement  Award to our Senior Rtn. Madhu Narang and felicitation of  Golden Jubilee Wedding   Anniversary Rotarian Couples  with cake cutting  where  our Past Presidents were present . 

Ø  On 28th April :  Lifetime Achievement Award  was presented to Rtn. PP Ramesh Oza  for his valuable contribution in the field  of Audiology  to some of the leading hospitals in Mumbai and especially to KDN Shruti School for the hearing impaired students.  This Award was presented to Rtn. PP Ramesh Oza at the hands of  Major General Ian Cardozo,  who is Chairman of  Rehabilitation of Handicapped  on Central Govt., Delhi and he specially came to present this award.

History is Created at Bombay West – March 2012!!


History is Created at Bombay West – March 2012!! 


·        4th March 2012 was the red-letter day for Bombay West.  For the first time in its 58 year old history, the Club became 100% PHF Club.  And this honour was bestowed upon the Club by none other than R.I.President Kalyan Banerjee at a function held at Juhu Gymkhana, Mumbai where he also handed over pins to 100 New PHFs from the Club.  The event was graced by over 250 people including PDGs, District Dignitaries, TRF Chairman and ofcourse, DG Vijay Jalan.

·        March 2012 also saw Bombay West getting one more coveted recognition – EREY – Every Rotary Every Year!!  Kudos to Bombay West which is ably led by President Arvind Shah.

·        Bombay West honoured Principal Dr.Bhosle of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Tehnology, Versoa for motivating the students of the college to whole-heartedly participate in Rotary Blood Donation Drive.  At one go, Bombay West in partnership with Rotary D.G.Goenka Blood Bank (Brahmakumari BSES Hospital) collected 250 Bottles of Blood at a Camp held at the College premises.

·        On 25th March :  Rotary Quiz  Competition  was held at Rotary Service Centre  with  Rotary club of Mumbai North Island    as co-host club.  Rtn. PP Ramon Abrol   was the Quiz master.

·        As  one of the joint lead Club with 7 other Clubs of Western Suburb side, a programme on Values & Ethics was held  at ISKCON Auditorium from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm. This  programme was from 8.30 am - 9.15 am breakfast at ISKCON Govinda and thereafter 30 minutes Bhajans by Shri Anup Jalota, 60 minutes address by Sunandaji Parhasarathy and about 20 minutes for question answers.  More than  400 members participated

Bombay West in February 2012 !!

On Sunday, 5th February, 2012 – Public Seminar on Consumer Awareness  was held at Rotary Service centre  from  9.00 am  to 12.45 pm   with breakfast & Lunch. Our Club is one of the lead host club  for the above seminar/programme.  DG Vijay Jalan was the   Chief Guest and  Rtn. Amarjit Sabherwal  , Avenue Chair as Convener. Dr. M.S. Kamat on Consumerism in present day, Mr.  Kapil Bhargava on  Food and Medicines,  Mr. K.P. Sukumar on Consumer Durables, Mr. Jehangir Gai  on Housing & Banking  and Mr. J.M. Baphna  on Court Intervention were the speakers.  
On 8th February, 2012 -  Team of six couples from Australia  visited our club  and  given  presentation for 10 minutes.

On  Saturday, 18th February, 2012 : Musical Programme on “Dil Ki Awaaz Suno” based on RIP Kalyan Banerjee’s theme “Reach Within to Embrace Humanity” was held  at our club.  Rotary Club of Bombay West  Living Legends of India Achievement Award was  presented to the Legendary Music Director Shri. Ravishankar Sharma. 

On 22nd February, 2012 : Inauguration of  RVG Diagnostic X-ray machine was held at Dr. Maharukh F. Driver Memorial Dental Clinic at  our Medical Centre. X-ray Machine with laptop  was donated by Our own  Rtn. PP. Sukhdev Puri & R/Ann. Urmil Puri.

And the Good Work Continues at Bombay West !!


On  15th January, 2012 -  Co-hosted with other three clubs  for the Kite Flying  Celebration  from 2.30-6.30 pm  at Dahanukar College, Vile Parle (East). Mumbai

On 22nd January, Our club  organized  an Orthopedic Camp   when 95 plus  members of  the Society  took  advantage  of checking bone density, sugar contents, blood pressure, etc.  Knowledge  giving lecture  was organized  by our  medical team  with  Dr. Kaushal Malhan , well known orthopedic surgeon  attached to  Fortis Hospital, Mulund. 

On 23rd January our Club  arranged  a Career Guidance   for the  students of Hussain Allana English Medium School.  Our Senior Rtn. Mohanlal Gupta  took the leadership alongwith  Rtn. Laxminarayan Baijal  and Rtn. Arvind Shah participated in this event.  Boys and girls  appreciated  by receiving  knowledge under  the different vocations.

On 23rd & 24th January, Rtn. Dr. Pratima Kodkani took the lead  for blood checking of the economically  and socially  weaker section ladies  who were pregnant and were explained about  HIV/AIDS  disease awareness and precautions . 

On 25th & 26th January, long awaited   Couple fellowship programme  for 25 couples was organized at Hotel Heritage of Jadhavghat Fort, Pune.  All 50 plus members enjoyed every moment  of 36 hrs.  very well  planned by our Rotarians.

On 27th January – Under Dist. Thrust  area,  signed an MOU for two check dams  at Maswan, Palghar Dist.  Also   the Solar Light execution is under progress.

28th January – Under Dist. Thrust Area organized   a Seminar on “Water Unlimited ???”  from 9.30 am – 1.30 pm with three Key note   speakers  - Ex. Cabinet Minister Mr.  Suresh Prabhu,  Prof. Dr. Walavalkar  and Padmashri Dr. Mehta as well on theme Water harvesting by team from  Asian Paints.

On Sunday, 15th January, 2012 : Under Education – Health  Society Welfare Programme, a Lecture on Management of Co-op. Housing Society was held  at Board Room of Rotary Service  Centre by our own Rtn. Adv. Hiralal Suthar (Specialist in  Co-op. Society Act )  More than  15 Rotarians  and other Community members attended this  lecture.
 
Granted Vocational Loan Scholarship to  40 students for Engineering & Vocational Courses totaling to Rs. 8,48,000/- [July-January, 2012]

What’s Up at Bombay West – November, 2011

·        Rtn. Dr. Pratima Kodkani conducted IQ test & counseling to (40) students of S. S. Sahney School, Khar Danda.

  • ·        Lecture on Medical Emergency & Response (Heart Attack) by Dr. Prafulla Thorat held on Sunday, 6th November, 2011 at 10 am at Board Room as a part of Health Awareness Programme

  • ·        11th Nov.  Celebrated  Childrens Day at Municipal  School, Dixit Road, Vile Parle (East). Children of Bhavishya Yaan with the help of teachers from VIDYA performed in multifarious activities  like poetry recitation, acting , English speaking, puppetry, dancing, etc. 
  • ·        12th Nov.  :  Visited Maswan with PP Rtn. Hemant Jagtap alongwith 14 other Rotarians from our club to finalise the location for Check Dam.
  • ·        14th Nov. : Celebrated Children’s Day at Vidyanidhi School. 
  • ·        To help the  10th standard students in their studies, we have donated a CD of lessons  in difficult subjects like Science, Maths and Social Studies   for the children of Vidyanidhi School.
  • ·        Celebrated Childrens Day  at B.L. Agarwal School by showing a movie to the primary section students.
  • ·        Nov. 15  :  Donation to  SOPAN (Society of Parents of Children with autism) Project at BMC Municipal School, Jogeshwari where we have donated  equipments for Vocational Training  Programme.
  • ·        Rotary Club  of Thane Green City,  a  lead  Host  Club  had organized Seminar on Global Warming and Water on 15th November, 2011, at Ambrosia Hall, Satkar Hotel, Thane and our Club was one of the Host club.
  • ·        Nov. 16 : Holy Cross School  celebrated  Children’s Day by organizing   different competitions  and games. Our Club sponsored  the prizes.
  • ·        On Sunday, 20th November, 2011 – A Lecture  on  “Depression”  was held at Board Room of Rotary Service Centre  from 10.00 am  onwards  by our own Rtn. Dr. Shyamlal Khanna to create Health Awareness
  • ·        22nd November ;  Inter-school Elocution Contest on 4-Way Test was  held at Rotary Service Centre .  30 students from 10 school participated. Prizes were distributed  to the winners
  • ·        27th  November :  A free General, Dental  and Asthma Check up Camp was held at Rotary Service Centre  for the nearby residents.  105 patients took the benefit of the camp and free medicines were given.  Cipla  had organized the Asthma check up .  Our Medical Centre Doctors – Dr Tehemtun Driver, Dr. Prafulla Thorat & Dr. Snehal Shroff  looked after all the patients with the assistance from  our Medical Staff. Inner Wheel  President & Members and  so many Rotarians were present.
  • ·        Co-hosted the District Seminar on  Women Empowerment organized by Rotary Club of Mumbai Juhu at S.P. Jain Institute of Management on 28th  November, 2011
  • ·        Granted Vocational Loan Scholarship to  36 students for Engineering & Vocational Courses totaling to Rs. 7,93,000/- [July-November, 2011]
  • ·        Rotary Club  of Thane Green City,  a  lead  Host  Club  had organized Seminar on Global Warming and Water on 15th November, 2011, at Ambrosia Hall, Satkar Hotel, Thane and our Club was one of the Host club.

Projects & More... October, 2011


1.       Bombay West continues to do exceedingly well this year in TRF Contributions…  $ 33761 and counting. Against target of $ 17000

2.       Average Attendance at the Regular Meetings was at a high of 67%

3.       Art & Craft competition  amongst all schools of Mumbai with  students having  hearing deficiencies  was held at Rotary’s KDN Shruti School for Hearing Impaired at Juhu, Mumbai

4.       Dist. MIPS Programme was held at our Rotary Service Centre from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm. Rotary Club of  Bombay West and Rotary Club of  Bombay Greencity were the lead host Clubs.

5.       Blood Donation Drive  in association with our Rotary’s DG Goenka Blood Bank, BSES Hospital, Andheri, Mumbai was held on 5th October at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Versova.   150 students  donated blood.

6.       Conducted free Eye check up camp for 1000 school students  at Lilavati Podar & Raja Ramdeo Podar Shala  at Santacruz (West), Mumbai.

7.       Fellowship programme coinciding with Diwali celebrations was held in great style at Raheja Classique Club, Andheri, Mumbai.

8.       Vocational Loan Scholarships were granted to 32 students aggregating Rs.7.28 lacs during the current rotary year, upto 31st Oct 2011.

9.       Established presence on Social Media by launching official Facebook page.
